Anything Goes!

Friday, January 13 – Saturday, January 28, 2023 | 10 AM – 4 PM. Anything Goes!, an exhibit of member art at Art League Gallery, celebrates the astounding array of artwork created by Art League exhibiting members. Truly anything goes at this exhibit: any media, size, shape, form or subject. From 2D art in painting, pencils, and photography to jewelry, glass, wood and other 3D forms, exhibiting artists challenge themselves to bring together their best for the new year.

Kayak Tours

Friday, January 13, 2023 |  12 – 2 PM. Join a PRSF Naturalist for a 2-hour guided kayak tour of the Chechessee River departing from the Maritime Center. You must register.

NOTES – 2023

Friday, January 13, 2023 | 6 PM to 10 PM. An Evening of Musical Storytelling & Casual Conversation is an amazing concert event benefitting the Northern Beaufort County Boys & Girls Clubs. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., winner of Americas Got Talent and special guests The Voices of Classic Soul (Lead singers from The Temptations, Four Tops, The Platters, and The Drifters) will be the featured performers. Guests can expect an exciting evening filled with music, dancing, delicious complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Daufuskie Island Marathon

Saturday, January 14, 2023 | 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. An inclusive race held at Haig Point and consists of a 13.1-mile or a 26.2-mile distance on a USATF-certified course. After the race, enjoy live music while having lunch. Browse an Artesian Village filled with vendors and have celebratory drinks on the green.

Saturday, January 14, 2023 | 9 a.m. -12 p.m. Port Royal Farmers Market in Port Royal at Naval Heritage Park. Outside the Beaufort Naval Hospital Grounds lies Naval Heritage Park under the shade of beautiful Live Oaks Trees.  The park is the setting for Port Royal’s popular Farmers’ Market, every Saturday morning.

Met Opera HD: Fedora

Saturday, January 14, 2023 | 12:55 pm. Giordano’s exhilarating drama Fedora returns to the Met for the first time in 25 years, starring soprano Sonya Yoncheva in the title role of the 19th-century princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, Count Loris, sung by tenor Piotr Beczała. Soprano Rosa Feola is the Countess Olga, Fedora’s confidante, and baritone Artur Ruciński is the diplomat De Siriex. Marco Armiliato conducts David McVicar’s intricate production, with a fixed set that unfolds to reveal the opera’s settings: a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps.

Saturday, January 14, 2023 | 1 pm – 4 pm. Oyster roasts are celebrations of community and the bounty of the sea — two of South Carolina’s most enduring traits. Coast, Oceanfront Dining at The Sea Pines Resort is hosting this popular seasonal event with a special menu of fresh, local and roasted-on-site oysters from Maggioni Oyster Company on St. Helena Island.

Watercolor Pouring

Monday, January 16, 2023 | 10 am. The techniques of watercolor pouring create a glowing luminous and fluid effect to paintings. Come and have fun, pouring and dropping paint while you watch the spontaneity of watercolor. Julie will demonstrate 2 different scenes, and provide the images for you to use. You may choose to paint your own subject if you bring reference photos of the scene you’d like to paint.

Tuesday, January 17, 2023 | 9 AM – 1 PM. The Hilton Head Farmers Market gathers every Tuesday at the Coastal Discovery Museum’s Honey Horn campus. Visit with our expanding list of regular vendors, plus a rotating schedule of food trucks and new arrivals. The HHI Farmers Market roster includes area growers providing the freshest local produce. A great outing for the whole family and a great way to support our community’s vendors and small businesses while taking quality goods home to our families.

Rediscovering the Discovery of America

Monday, January 17, 2023 | 10:30 – 11:30 AM. Though generally attributed to Columbus in 1492, the actual discovery of what became known as America occurred over a period of more than 125 years, and may well have begun happening 500 years prior to Columbus’ sighting of an “island” to the northwest of Hispaniola. This presentation explores the actual facts behind the myths that have framed American history for centuries.

An Evening with Beth M. Howard, Author of World Piece

Tuesday, January 17, 2023 | 5 PM – 7 PM. The Pat Conroy Literary Center and The Rhett House Inn will host an evening of pie and stories with Beth M. Howard, author of World Piece: A Pie Baker’s Global Quest for Peace, Love, and Understanding. The $25 registration fee includes a copy of the book, a sampling of pies, and the author talk and pie-making demonstration.

Thursday, January 19 – Sunday, January 29, 2023. Based on the true story of D’Agata’s essay What Happens There, The Lifespan of a Fact follows the Las Vegas suicide of teenager Levi Presley. Jim Fingal, assigned to fact-check the piece, ignited a seven-year debate on the blurred lines of what passes for truth in literary non-fiction.
